The library encourages children to develop an interest in reading and learning through a weekly story hour program with related activities. Story time for preschoolers and their families is held from 10:30-11:00 a.m. every Friday in the library’s meeting room. Guest storytellers are often featured. Parents are given assistance in obtaining resources to support their efforts to develop their children’s interests, knowledge, and development.
Sharing books at an early age is important as it helps prepare children for learning to read and for becoming lifelong readers and library users. Studies have shown that children who are read to at an early age do better in school.
A weekly summer reading program for school age children is provided which includes reading related activities, guest speakers, and performers. Special programs have included poets, storytellers, musicians, and craftspeople. Details will become available as summer approaches.
